Incarcerated host Phillip speaks with Beth Chatham, LCSW-C an experienced Trauma informed therapist. Beth graduated from University of MD Baltimore County in 1992 with a double major in Social Work and Sociology. She received her Masters in Social Work in 2007 from Salisbury University. Beth has worked with several populations including the homeless, adolescents at risk of being placed in detention centers, child protection as a case manager and child abuse investigator and international adoptions. She transitioned to therapy in 2014 beginning in an inpatient adolescent psychiatric hospital and then to her current position in an outpatient mental health clinic. She also has extensive training in trauma focused therapy, Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Beth became involved in social justice and prison reform while working with several men who after being released from prison were struggling after their release, they described trauma before and during prison and how that impacted them being successful upon release.

Meet Mrs. Arika Rodriguez, a Georgia advocate whose husband is currently incarcerated. Arika’s husband is currently in need of substance abuse treatment. She shares their story of being arrested on conspiracy charges and her being detained while pregnant. Arika’s husband has been incarcerated since the age of 15 yrs old, he was released for 2 months and incarcerated again. She is also the daughter of a man who was formerly incarcerated and passed away in 2016 from an overdose. These experiences led her to advocacy. She enjoys networking and educating others in why they should help those incarcerated. She deals with organizations that fight the whole justice system as well. They educate people about the importance of voting and knowing their rights. Meet Baltimore home town hero Mrs. Nicole Hanson-Mundell.
This powerhouse is an expert on criminal justice policy and re-entry in Maryland. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Out for Justice, a member-led nonprofit organization for returning citizens working to reform local and statewide reentry policies. Nicole leads Out for Justice by advancing its mission to engage, educate and empower those with criminal records to lead the change they want to see. In this role, she has organized large-scale expungement events and clinics, registered returning citizens to vote, supported high-risk individuals in navigating life after release, and collaborated with Morgan State University to conduct a re-entry health needs assessment research project in Baltimore City.

Incarcerated host Phillip A Jones speaks with Neesa Hart, Programming Director, of Stafford Handbells. The Stafford Regional Handbell Society is a non-profit community handbell organization in the Fredericksburg, VA area.
Neesa says, “I Have Always Loved The Transformative Power Of Handbells. Together, We Make Beautiful Music Working In Unison And Supporting Each Other. I Love That We Are Able To Bring This Joy To All Musicians Of All Ages No Matter Where They Are On Their Musical Journey.”
Neesa is also the founder of Jackie’s Song! A Foundation named in memory of her aunt. Jackie’s Song not only brings the wonderful world of music to underserved (at risk) children but also supports men and women who were incarcerated and in need of Re Entry assistance in the Virginia area! Noticing the direct impact on her students of having a parent incarcerated, they added this important layer of support to aide in their successful re entry.

This Momma Diamond can not take back that fateful night but her beginning and ending will move you to action and tears.
Nicole says, God brought me to my knees on May 15, 2015. I stay humble in that reminder and grateful to know that life now is HIS and I must share it with others.
Nicole was sentenced to the Texas Prison(TDCJ) in April 2018. She made her first parole in July 2019, 450 days of confinement.

theologian and religious historian, with a Bachelors in Theology (emphasis history) and a Master's in Theological Studies. She is a doctoral candidate at Amherst Theological Seminary. As a theologian and historian, C Dreams studies the intersection of religion with crime, punishment and rehabilitation.
