Host Phillip A. Jones talks to Geoffrey King, civil rights attorney and Executive Editor of Open Vallejo, the first non-profit news organization in Vallejo, California. After witnessing police violence in his hometown, Geoff used his education as well as his experiences as a litigator and founded Open Vallejo, the first non-profit news source in Vallejo, California. Over the past several years, Geoff and his team have broken major stories covering the recent badge-bending scandal within the Vallejo Police Department, and digging deep into the coffers and archives of local government. Geoff has brought much needed transparency and a new perspective to reporting and his non-profit, open-source model is changing the face of investigative journalism. We will cover some of Open Vallejo's biggest stories, including the Vallejo Police Department's badge bending scandal. #justice #transparency #freedomofthepress #media

Phillip speaks with powerful advocate Juanita Belton who makes up 1/3rd of the founding group Sistas in Prison Reform (SIP). She advocates along with Paulettra James and Santia Nance out of Virginia.
The Sistas in Prison Reform is a group formed by three women who believe in redemption, rehabilitation, and remorse. They believe that individuals who have served lengthy sentences deserve a second chance. Past mistakes should not define their future lives.Their goal is to raise awareness of those behind the walls. They seek to change the stigma behind those impacted by more serious offenses. SIP believes those incarcerated deserve the right to be reaffirmed in society as productive citizens. More importantly, they are fighting to change the criminal justice system to bring loved ones home.Social media sites:Twitter@thesip2021 – Sistas in Prison Reform@Sinita11_ – J.Bel@YourLovedOneQ – Santia@Nu2You2 – PaulettraEmailThesip2021@gmail.comWebsitehttps://sistasinprisonreform.comTo assist Phillip:Please donate to my Reentry fund!https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/Reentry2023To contact Phillip directlySecurus app. Or Securus.com881507 Alvin JonesWashington State#SIP #incarceratedlivesmatter #criminaljustice #family

Incarcerated host Phillip A Jones talks with hometown Bay Area advocate Jessica San Luis who is the Executive Director of Small Axe Foundation. Their motto at Small Axe Foundation is: Sometimes, things fall apart. At Small Axe, they work directly with local businesses to provide crucial support to single-income families with school-aged children who are struggling financially. They pair these families with plumbers, electricians, contractors, childcare providers and local shops to get the assistance they need when they need it.
Jessica earned her Bachelor's Degree from San Francisco State University, and spent more than two decades working as a legal advocate for immigrants, the indigent and the impoverished. Jessica has experienced homelessness firsthand, as a single parent struggling to support a growing family in one of the most expensive places in the world. She brings an enormous amount of functional knowledge, empathy and compassion to Small Axe Foundation.
